ESG, Frameworks and Disclosure
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, or TNFD, is a global framework that helps organizations assess, report, and act on their relationship with nature. It is the nature counterpart to the climate-focused TCFD, and it has become the anchor framework for how institutions disclose nature-related risks and opportunities.
Climate disclosure alone does not capture how businesses depend on and affect ecosystems, from water and pollination to soil and biodiversity. TNFD extends the discipline of financial disclosure to nature, giving investors and regulators a consistent way to understand exposure that sits beyond carbon.
TNFD is built around LEAP, a four-step process, Locate the interface with nature, Evaluate dependencies and impacts, Assess material risks and opportunities, and Prepare to respond and report. It gives organizations a structured method for turning a complex relationship with nature into disclosable information.
TNFD asks organizations to report both how they depend on nature and how they affect it, and to translate those into financial risks and opportunities. This dual view is what makes the framework useful to capital, it connects ecological reality to the balance sheet.
A disclosure framework is only as strong as the evidence behind it. TNFD sets what to report, the harder problem is proving it. Druid Chain is built to supply that proof, capturing nature data at the source so TNFD-aligned disclosures can be independently verified rather than taken on trust.
